Am Mittwoch dieser Woche besuchte ein deutscher Luftwaffenoffizier die Klasse 10.1 von Herrn Klamp, um über Afghanistan zu reden. Hauptmann Peter Schelke hatte eine Präsentation mitgebracht und eine Menge interessanter Gesprächsthemen. Er war allerdings nicht gekommen, um Werbung für eine Karriere bei der Bundeswehr zu machen, auch wenn er einen Überblick über die Struktur des deutschen Militärs gab, seine Gattungen und Dienstgrade. Auf seiner Tagesordnung stand Afghanistan, jenes weit entfernte Land, seine Geographie, Geschichte und Politik, die Leute dort und ethnischen Gruppierungen. Unsere Schülerinnen und Schüler erfuhren etwas über das deutsche Mandat in Afghanistan, welches ein Auftrag ist, Hilfs- und Wiederaufbauprojekte zu beschützen, und über die Hauptgegner der westlichen Allianz, die Taliban.
On Wednesday of this week a German airforce officer paid a visit to Form 10.1 of Mr Klamp to talk about Afghanistan. Captain Peter Schelke had brought a presentation and lots of interesting stuff to talk about. He hadn’t come to promote military careers although he gave a short overview over the structure of the German Army from its branches to ranks. On his agenda was Afghanistan, that country far away and associated with an ugly war which has already cost the lives of a number of German servicemen. Captain Schelke talked about the country, its geography, history and politics, the various peoples and ethnic groupings. Our students learned about the German mandate in Afghanistan which is a mission to protect aid and reconstruction projects and about the main opponents of the Western alliance, the Taliban.
